The course is open for three and a half hours, but there are some runners that need a bit more time. If you finish after three and a half hours you’ll still get a medal, but you may need to move to the sidewalk (the course is controlled by the CHP and police only for the three and a half hours). Runners are welcome to start early but note they will not have an official time.

Code of Conduct
Help us ensure a safe, enjoyable, and successful race day by following our City to the Sea Code of Conduct. Your cooperation helps us create a positive experience for all participants, volunteers, staff, and spectators.
General Behavior
Treat fellow participants, volunteers, staff, and spectators with courtesy and respect at all times.
Follow all event instructions and announcements from race officials.
Please be respectful and quiet during pre-race announcements and the playing of the national anthem.
Sportsmanship
Unsportsmanlike conduct of any kind will not be tolerated. This includes—but is not limited to—verbal or physical abuse, harassment, offensive language, or dishonest behavior.
Examples of unsportsmanlike conduct:
Providing false or misleading registration information
Using disrespectful or harmful language
Any behavior deemed unethical, unsafe, or inappropriate by City to the Sea officials
Participants who fail to meet these expectations may be disqualified or face other appropriate consequences at the sole discretion of race organizers.
Start Area & Corrals
Allow extra time to pick up your bib and find your assigned corral.
Only enter your assigned corral or one slower than your assigned pace.
No smoking, vaping, or use of tobacco or cannabis products is allowed within 1,000 feet of the start line, course, or finish area.
Headphones, Phones, & Devices
Elite/Invited Athletes: Headphones and mobile devices are prohibited under the rules of World Athletics, USATF, and World Para Athletics.
General Participants: Use of headphones is strongly discouraged. If you choose to wear them, keep the volume low and stay aware of your surroundings at all times.
Using mobile phones or recording devices during the race for anything other than tracking your run is discouraged.
Running Etiquette
Help maintain a smooth flow for everyone by observing these guidelines:
Running in Groups: Avoid running more than two abreast. Large groups block other runners.
Passing: Communicate clearly when passing. Say “On your left” or “On your right” and allow space.
Stopping: Don’t stop abruptly. Move to the side to tie shoes, take a break, or drink water.
Aid Stations: Grab water from the farthest table and continue moving to avoid congestion.
Spitting/Nose Blowing: Do so with care and away from others.
Portable Speakers: Not allowed. Amplified music disrupts the race environment for others.
Helping Others: If you see a runner in distress, assist them and/or alert the nearest volunteer or call our medical emergency line at 866-705-6626.
Facilities & Amenities
Portable Toilets
Please wait your turn in line and be courteous to others.
Race Attire
We ask that all runners wear appropriate attire throughout the race. We strongly discourage shirtless running.
Trash & Litter
Dispose of all trash—including cups from aid stations—in the provided receptacles.
Lost & Found
Found items should be turned in to the City to the Sea staff tent or any race official. Items will be held for 30 days before being discarded.
Bag Check
City to the Sea is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items left at bag check.
Important Race Day Reminders
Finish Line: Please go through the finish chute only once. Multiple finishes create inaccurate results.
Bib & Chip: Pin your bib to the front of your shirt and securely tie your timing chip to your shoe.
Don’t Re-Enter the Course: Once you've finished, do not return to run alongside friends still on the course.
After finishing, head to the awards area, enjoy your post-race breakfast, and relax with friends and family!
